New Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) head Blake Paulson has been left big boots to fill by outgoing chief Brian Brooks, who made significant headway reconfiguring regulations to accommodate DeFi and digital assets.
But, whereas Brooks was formerly Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer, Paulson has spent his career as a bank examiner, becoming Chief Operating Officer at the OCC in June 2020, after almost two decades supervising national banks and savings associations.
As of yet, it remains unclear how Paulson will approach crypto assets. He is perhaps unlikely to be as accommodating as his predecessor but we shall see.
